## Our story

Meet the people behind Oak1: three different paths and one shared purpose. Together the founders have helped build 4 care homes, led 100+ AI projects and brought hundreds of consumer products into millions of homes. Three backgrounds, and a deeply personal reason to build Oak1.

### The founders

- **Abhishek Mohanty, Co-founder & CEO:** Before Careflick, Abhishek helped build assisted living and memory care homes at Epoch Elder Care, gaining firsthand insight into the everyday realities of aging. That experience now drives his vision for Oak1: helping older adults live independently, confidently, and with the support they need, wherever they call home.
- **Himanshu Maharana, Co-founder & CTO:** An electrical engineer from NIT Rourkela and an alumnus of IIM Bangalore, Himanshu brings 9 years of experience in AI, machine learning and cognitive computing. At IBM, he led AI initiatives and helped incubate quantum computing in India. With Oak1, he brings together his expertise in language, vision and contextual intelligence to bridge the gap between complex AI systems and natural, human-like interactions that understand, remember and respond to people.
- **Monika Dubasi, Co-founder & COO:** An engineer from NIT Rourkela and an MBA from IIM Bangalore, Monika has spent her career building businesses from the ground up. At Flipkart, she launched and scaled private-label television brands, and later built procurement systems for a global consumer brands aggregator. With Oak1, she brings that 0-to-1 experience to life, connecting product, manufacturing and operations to turn an ambitious idea into something people can wear, rely on and use every day.

### Why it is personal

**Abhishek & his dad: Care doesn’t stop at a distance.** After losing his mum in 2013, Abhishek has watched his dad grow older while living independently. From miles away, he’s helped him log into Netflix, navigate potential financial scams, plan spiritual journeys within his budget, and arrange a caregiver when he fell seriously ill. Some moments are small. Others are urgent. And some are simply about helping him enjoy life on his own terms. For Abhishek, Oak1 began with a simple hope: that his dad, and millions like him, could continue living independently, confidently, and with support whenever they need it.

**Himanshu & his parents: A new chapter deserves a sense of belonging.** Himanshu watched his dad transition from the Indian Air Force into retirement. While grandchildren brought new joy, they couldn't quite fill the void left by a fulfilling career, close colleagues, and an active professional life. For Himanshu, Oak1 is about helping older adults stay connected, explore new interests, and find things to look forward to in every chapter of life.

**Monika & her parents: There’s still so much to share.** Monika remembers her dad as someone who loved being around people. But over the years, health setbacks, moving cities, and changing social circles gradually made his once-active social life quieter. For her, Oak1 is rooted in a simple wish: that growing older shouldn't mean losing the joy of connecting with people, discovering new interests, and staying engaged with the world around us.

For our dads, and yours: different lives, the same wish, for our parents to feel connected, stay curious, and keep living life on their own terms. That’s why the founders are building Oak1.
